I truly lack the words to describe how great this book is. Hernández’s voice and narrative bring the history of the Mexican Revolution to life. It manages to take the stories of Mexican anarchist revolutionaries, primarily the Flores Magón brothers, the opposition at home and in the States, and weave them into a narrative that is both deeply personal and sweepingly enthralling. It’s a story of resistance against tyranny, of the fight for social justice, the immeasurable sacrifices, and ultimately, the enduring power of hope in the face of overwhelming odds.
One of my favorite aspects is how Hernández manages to squeeze in an introduction to anarchist thought, dispelling myths and providing the thinkers behind it.
I cannot recommend this book enough, if only for such engaging storytelling. However, the depth of knowledge and historical context Hernández provides is impressive. A must read for anyone interested in Mexican history, anarchism, or the fight for social justice.
